To take my journalism resume into a media design based resume, I used prompts that emphasized reframing experience rather than rewriting facts. I asked ChatGBT to “reframe my journalism resume into a media design resume,” then followed up with “push it toward an agency-style creative resume” and “emphasize visual storytelling, branding, and multimedia production.” These prompts helped shift the focus from reporting tasks to creative output and design thinking.

The biggest change between the original and revised version was language and positioning. My original resume highlighted responsibilities like covering events and reporting, while the AI-generated version emphasized multimedia design, content creation, and visual storytelling. Job titles were elevated, like Content Producer” to “Multimedia Designer”,  and bullet points were rewritten to highlight creative decisions, such as composition, pacing, and audience engagement, rather than just duties.

Small changes in wording like asking for “agency-style” or “design-focused” significantly changed tone and structure. Tailoring content isn’t about changing experience, but about translating it into the language that a specific industry values.
